FIRELINE is a research-driven forensic framework that introduces a reliability-gated approach to multimedia evidence interpretation in federal investigations. Developed in response to growing dependence on digital evidence (and the risks associated with its misinterpretation) FIRELINE establishes a structured, auditable system that governs how and when forensic conclusions should be made.
 

Rather than proposing new analytical tools, FIRELINE addresses a critical gap in modern forensics: decision-making discipline. It formalizes the boundaries of scientific interpretation by defining:
 

  • When forensic analysis is appropriate

  • Which methods are valid under specific conditions

  • What conclusions must be restricted

  • How uncertainty should be explicitly documented
     

The framework is grounded in real-world investigative challenges, including long-duration cases such as the Delphi homicides, where early-access digital evidence required years of careful corroboration. FIRELINE uses such cases as process models to emphasize restraint, evidentiary maturity, and defensible reporting.
 

Spanning four critical domains (mobile media, body-worn camera footage, AI-generated content, and drone-based evidence), FIRELINE integrates scientific constraints from audio physics, signal processing, and cognitive bias research. It demonstrates that many forensic errors stem from misalignment between signal limits and analytical expectations.
