Binary Form Composition

Reviewed music theory concepts, from the phrase model through elements of tonal counterpoint & chromaticism to the study of large-scale forms. NYU Tonal Theory lectures focused on analysis, dictation, and written theory skills with an emphasis on Western European tonal traditions of the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as excursions into 20th-century repertory. The final assignment involved creating a binary composition while adhering to specific criteria including: a clear harmonic progression implied by the melody, cadences and modulation that appropriately articulates compositional form, comprehensive notation, and legible presentation.
